The Quantoport is a lot less mobile than the x-ray analyser and requires a link to a power supply, using either a direct 110v or a step down transformer from mains 240v.

Before PMI testing, each of the four programmes need their own individual calibration using samples with known analysis, in the low, mid and high spec range of the programme.

The advantages of the Quantoport over the x-ray analyser are the fact it can test for silicon and aluminium levels. It is also slightly more accurate at testing the low levels of residual elements in carbon steels.
